The Left today seems to live in a constant fear of dictatorship. You see them moaning about an Imperial presidency, that Bush won’t step down at the end of his term, the contant wholesale negation of civil rights, etc.

But then why are they so eager to limit the greatest defense we have against a dictatorship: the right to keep and bear arms? If anything is going to prevent a dictatorship in America, it’s private citizens being able to defend their rights. It would be ironic if the Left were correct and someone on the Right did instill a dictatorship and he was successful because liberals had done such a good job taking weapons out of the hands of average citizens, (Another possible irony would be armed citizens, who are usually found on the Right, being the ones who successfully prevented, or overthrew, a dictatorship.)

I think the greatest danger, though, would be a cheertatorship, followed closely by a cheerocracy.

Quote of the Day

“In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.”
